U.S. Army Ammunition Managment
When the U.S. Army needed to design a new computer system to manage over $1.2 billion of ammunition assets per year, they turned to the Acentia team to redesign and re-host the system to a modern, Web-based environment.
Business Issue
The U. S. Army’s Total Ammunition Management Information System (TAMIS) manages over $1.2 billion in ammunition assets annually. It provides the ability to monitor usage, project shortages and develop the ammunition budget. TAMIS is a highly visible system and provides training ammunition usage for the entire Army. The U. S. Army used an IBM mainframe computer to host TAMIS, and needed to convert it to a modern Web-based environment.
Our Solution
Acentia (and acquired companies) has been supporting the TAMIS system for over 23 years. The U. S. Army selected Acentia (as subcontractor to CACI) to provide full-life cycle software development and IT support to the TAMIS program, due to our outstanding performance and deep understanding of the legacy system. This included requirements analysis, design, development, network administration, testing, quality assurance, documentation, training, help desk support and maintenance. Acentia redesigned the legacy mainframe application to a Web-based system, worked closely with DISA engineers to resolve and test NIPRNET congestion, and put the TAMIS redesigned system into operation. Our TAMIS help desk personnel currently service more than 9,000 service requests annually from over 7,000 users world-wide.
Business Benefit
Automated ammunition requests can be accomplished from any computer with Internet access from anywhere in the world. TAMIS handles over 200,000 transactions per month from locations within Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia, Kuwait, Germany, Iraq and other locations.
