ITSolutions Awarded New Contract with WMATA

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA, or Metro) is currently implementing comprehensive updates to the fare payment system supporting the SmarTrip program. The programmatic goal of SmarTrip is to achieve seamless, regional integration in fare payment and reconciliation among approximately 16 regional transit operators with SmarTrip as the multi-modal, multi-operator fare payment tool. In other words, a bus or rail rider in the DC metropolitan area will be able to use the same SmarTrip card to ride any of the bus and rail lines. Other upgrades and enhancements are included in this project including automatic loading of funds onto Smart Cards through credit or debit card, complete upgrade to the existing technical infrastructure and ability for detailed reporting on Card usage.

ITSolutions is performing an IV&V (Independent Verification and Validation) analysis of the Regional SmarTrip System Project. The IV&V analysis will be used by senior WMATA management to assess whether the scope, budget, and schedule are sufficient and will deliver the value to the Regional bus and rail riders. In addition, ITSolutions will provide recommendations to the WMATA management on the technical architecture being proposed by the project vendors including considerations for ongoing operations of the system.
